WAVES Fee
2006 - 2007
The WAVES Fee is required to ensure
the full participation of HNHS families in running home meets and satisfying
away meet work requirements. WAVES fees will be refunded provided that
the family WAVES work requirement is satisfied.
Multiple family members may work at a meet and each one of the separate
work assignments will receive a WAVES credit.
There are ample opportunities to fulfill the work requirements and most
families exceed the minimum required. Working at swim meets is a great
opportunity to meet other HNHS families and swimmers.
WAVES Refund
No partial credit will be
given. The entire work requirement must be met before a refund will be
given. You will receive WAVES Fee
reimbursement after the championship meets at the end of the Short Course season
upon proof of satisfaction of Waves Requirements.
Notification
of Completed Work
It is very important that you
communicate with the Waves coordinator, Sherrie Price, upon the completion of a
work assignment. The most efficient way to contact Sherrie is via e-mail
at sprice1430@yahoo.com. Alternatively,
you may complete a WAVES form and give it to either Sherrie or your age group
representative. You will be notified
midseason as to your WAVES work requirement status.

Away Meets: HNHS is required to supply
timers at away meets based on the number of swimmers entered in the meet.
Sometimes the number of required timers will be determined in advance, and if
so, the Age Group Representatives will contact the team members via e-mail
requesting participation. If the number of timers is not known in advance, it
can be determined prior to the beginning of the meet by locating the host teams
meet manager (usually located in the office) and asking whether HNHS has enough
timers signed up to fulfill our requirement. If not, volunteer and
receive a Waves credit for the assignment.
If we do not have the required HNHS workers at away meets, the team will
be fined.
At YMCA dual and Tri meets
volunteers are also needed to work at the scorers table. Two parents are
needed for each Y-dual or Tri-meets to score. This job entails
keeping a running total of the number of points each team earns during the meet
and will be explained fully to any volunteer who helps in this capacity.
Championship Meets: Parents with swimmers in
Championship meets (Age Groups, Regional Championships, New England’s, etc.)
are expected to share the work requirements among themselves and will forfeit
their WAVES refund if they do not participate.
Home Meets: Home meets are major HNHS fundraisers that help to defray our
operating costs. It is critical that we
have the coverage necessary to run a successful meet. Sign up sheets for the necessary jobs are
posted at least one week in advance at the North Haven Pool. After
signing up, you will be notified by the meet manager of your work assignment.
You may be given a different assignment than the one you selected, and slots
that have not been selected will be assigned. Even if you have met your
WAVES obligation for the year you may be required to work if additional help is
needed.

Meet Job Descriptions
Refreshments: Volunteers are needed to help setup, sell
refreshments during the meet and break down the refreshment area after the
meet.
Awards: Volunteers are needed to help separate awards prior to the
meet. Labels are obtained from the computer table and put onto the
awards. Awards are then divided up by team.
Safety: A CPR certified Safety Officer is required on the
pool deck to ensure the safety of the swimmers and to administer first
aid. The safety officer will work with
the Marshall to patrol the locker rooms.
Marshall: The Marshall will
work with the Safety Officer to keep order on the pool deck and in the Locker
Rooms and will report any unsafe conditions to the Safety Officer
Computer: Volunteers are needed to assist the
computer chair in entering, tabulating and compiling meet results.
Table Scorer: For YMCA meets - volunteers to score the
meet for HNHS. This job entails keeping a running total of the number of
points each team earns during the meet.
Officials: Certified adult volunteers to officiate the
swim meets. Certification classes are conducted throughout the
year. Contact Paul Gontarksi for more
information if you are interested in becoming an official.
Head Timer: The Head Timer organizes and checks in all
the timers at the beginning of the meet, assists the Officials at the timers
meeting and oversees the distribution and collection of the timer sheets.
Throughout the meet the Head Timer ensures that the timing is running smoothly
and supplies water to the timers and officials. At the end of the meet,
the Head Timer is responsible for collecting the stop watches.
Clean Up: At the completion of home meets, we are
responsible for ensuring that the pool deck and locker rooms are clean and free
of trash. Food left on the floor must be picked up! We are also responsible for putting away the
bleachers.
End of the Year Banquet: Usually held in
May. Help with the planning, set-up and clean-up. One person is
sought to oversee the Raffle.
Timers: Many timers are needed at every meet. A timer’s meeting is held prior to each session where the rules and procedures are explained by the meet officials.
